Audiece Research 1

My group conducted some audience research, so when we came to doing our pre-lim task and our actual task, we would have some idea of what the potential target audience would want. This research was conducted over the internet in two ways, by sending it over social networking sites like Facebook, and the second, by e-mail.

My group decided it would be easier to hand out a questionnaire over the internet and via e-mail for its convience, there is not faffing around with bits of paper. All the work needing to be done is done very easily from a computer.

When my group came to gathering up th questionnaires and recieving answers we got together and analysed them, this way we would have an overview of every result.

Results
Q1) The dominant age group are teenagers and young adults who watch music videos - Meaning that our target audience will proberly be teenagers and young adults.
Q2) The genders were similar, however more females watch music videos - When designing our music video we have to put intio concideration that more females wtch them, so they have to be partly aimed at females, as they are the majourity of the audience.
Q3) The popular genres of music were trance, hip hop, drum 'n' bass, rock, r 'n' b, and pop being the prominant favourite - Our song is part of the pop genre, which is the mainly watched genre. So what ever we decided to do in oour music video, it will be watched as there is a high level of audiences for pop music channels.
Q4) 8/10 of the participants watch music videos - Out of the 10 participants the majourity of them watch music video's.
Q5) 7/10 of the participants watch music on TV
Q6) The most popular music channels were kiss, mtv, tmf, smash hits and the vault - All these channels focus on the mostly watched genres (trance, hip hop, drum 'n' bass, rock, r 'n' b, and pop), Which is why they are so popular because they play the mostly listened to music.
Q7) The only two reasons why the participants watch music videos is because they like the music, or for background music - So this means that people will watch the music video's if they are bored and want something to listen to, or maybe because they like watching music video's on TV.
Q8) There are many ways that the participants find out about a good music videos, the most prominant being friends, with the internet, television and magazines also being popular - Advertising is the key to a good selling song, advertising a single correctly and people will talk about it, it will be all over the internet, television and in magazines.
Q9) The music is the main thing that appeals someone to a music video, with the storyline also being popular, as well as the artist and special effects - In our music video we need to try and include some of these things that people find appealing, if pople find it apealing, they are more likely to watch it than change the channel.
Q10) 7/10 of the participants said that the artists influence them watching a music video.
Q11) The participants preferred realistic music videos, however surreal music videos were also popular as well as music videos with one narrative - This information will help us when we come to designing our own music video as we now know that our prefered target audience like realistic videos.
Q12) The present is the most favourite time setting for a music video, with the past and the future being popular - For out video, we will try to use more than one tense, this will make the video more interesting and apeall to more people because very many videos use more than one tense.
Q13) The participants equallty preferred mainly singing, performance based, random music videos - This means that it doesnt matter what kind of video we produce, it will be like what ever style we choose to do.
Q14) The favourite music videos varied from Thriller, to Wonderful world by James Morrison.
Q15) The main reasons for favouritism were that they keep them entertained, one can dance along to them, and they are simple yet effective.
Q16) Sun is Shining was described to be; catchy, good rhythm, modern, joyful, lyrical, electronic, repetative, interesting and original - Our songs positively described by 10 participant who agreed to answer our questionnaire.
Q17) The music video was said to have included; the sun, a boyfriend and girlfriend, the countryside, a band playing, a video that fits with the lyrics and isn't just selling the people in the band, but their music - When we asked participant what they thought should be included they siad the above. When we come to plannign and writing a treatment for our video we will take into consideration all of these factors.

Overall, these results have helped me narrow down what the music video should be like form the audiences point of view, however, there are other influences that need to be taken into consideration for example institutions.
